Meeting someone safely

• Take your time. There's no rush. Chat within AussieDate until you feel comfortable — you don't need to share your phone number, address or socials early on.
• Meet in public first. Choose a busy, public place for a first date, in daylight where you can.
• Tell someone. Let a friend or family member know where you're going, who you're meeting and when you expect to be back.
• Arrange your own transport. Get yourself there and home. Don't rely on a lift from someone you've just met.
• Look after your drink and stay in control. Leave if you feel uncomfortable — you never owe anyone an explanation.
• Protect your money. Never send money, gift cards or financial details to anyone you've met online — no matter the story. This is the most common way people are scammed.

Watch out for warning signs

Be cautious if someone:

• asks for money, financial help, or your bank/card details;
• pushes to move off AussieDate to another app very quickly;
• professes strong feelings unusually fast, or avoids video calls and meeting in person;
• gives inconsistent details, or their story doesn't add up; or
• pressures you for personal information, photos, or to do anything you're not comfortable with.

Romance scams are real. If something feels off, it probably is. Stop contact and report it.

Report or block anyone

You can report a member or stop contact at any time from your conversation with them — look for "Report a concern". Reports are private; the other person is not told you reported them. Our team reviews reports and may warn, suspend or permanently remove members. You will never be connected with anyone unless you both opt in, and we never show your phone number or email to another member.

Verification & honesty

We ask members to verify their email, and we're rolling out further verification (phone, photo and ID checks). Verification helps, but it is not a guarantee — please still follow the steps above. Everyone on AussieDate agrees to our Community Guidelines, including being genuine and treating people with respect.
